Obituary of Edmund Joseph Biancarelli, II
Edmund Joseph Biancarelli of Aiken, SC passed away on August 11, 2024 at the age of 77, after a courageous battle with CNS Lymphoma. He was a devoted husband of 56 years to his high school sweetheart, Ernestine.
Ed was born and raised in Scranton, PA. He completed his bachelor’s degree at Villanova University and received his masters degree from SUNY. He was an engineer through and through. He could fix just about anything and was always tinkering with something in the garage, a meticulously-organized space that would eventually host his custom 2020 Corvette. He spent over 40 years working in engineering and information technology and remained a proud Villanova Wildcat fan.
Ed was an adventurer. He loved to play tennis, pickleball, ski, row, and golf. In his younger days, he raced motorcycles in enduros throughout the Lehigh Valley. He enjoyed traveling and staying active. A lifelong lover of music, Ed attended concerts and played the acoustic guitar. He also loved to hunt and fish, enjoying many years “up the farm” during summers and deer hunting seasons. In his free time, he loved to throw parties, plan outings, and gather his friends for any occasion. If you didn’t know him, you might have overlooked that his stern nature protected an underlying generosity, kindness, and big heart.
Ed was also a family man and took great interest in his children and grandchildren’s activities and passions. He was the oldest brother to six siblings along with cousins and other extended family members with whom he remained close and connected throughout his life.
Ed was an active member of Woodside Country Club since moving to Aiken in 2002. He enjoyed participating in an Investment Club and in the Men’s Golf Association. He served on the Board of Advisors for a time at Woodside and created a Cigar Club that continues to this day.
Later in life Ed enjoyed volunteering with First Tee, building ramps with United Way, and serving as a guardian ad litem, helping make life easier for people with physical disabilities and working for children’s advocacy in Aiken county. He always had an interest in cars, cigars, bourbon and red wine and enjoyed gaining and sharing knowledge in these areas.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Edmund J Biancarelli and Rita M Cali Biancarelli. He is survived by his wife, Ernestine, daughter Beth Ann Kumer (Ken) of Brookfield, WI, and son Ernest J Biancarelli (Johanna) of Denver, CO; grandchildren Emma B. Kumer of Washington, DC, Elisa L. Kumer of Charleston, SC, Eva R. Kumer of Brookfield, WI, Will Biancarelli of Denver, CO and Eden Biancarelli of Denver, CO; siblings Lynne Stilley (Denis Boyle) of West Chester, PA, Rita Tinsley of Jessup, PA, Adele Biancarelli of Silver Spring, MD, Dr. Joseph Biancarelli (Brenda) of Towanda, PA, Mari-Lou Biancarelli (Hugh Strachan) of Collegeville, PA, and Dr. Susan Biancarelli (Robert Napkori) of Greenfield Township, PA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
