Obituary of Daniel Dikun

Daniel Dikun, beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at his home in Aiken, SC. Dan was 76 years old, born in Chicago, IL on Saturday, October 4, 1947.  

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Linda M. Dikun (Mango). As well as his three nephews, Alexander Lyssenko of Houston, TX, Taras Lyssenko of Cassapolis, MI and Scott Lyssenko of Berwyn, IL. He will also be missed by his loving father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Rosemary Mango of Aiken, sister-in-law, Deborah Fenton of Aiken, and brother-in-law, Daniel J. Mango of Richmond, IL.  In addition, he leaves behind two nephews, Martin Fenton II of Aiken and Nickolas Fenton of Woodstock, IL. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Mary Dikun, his brother, Alexander Lyssenko and his brother-in-law, Martin Fenton Sr. 

Dan attended Morton East High School in Berwyn, IL and University of Illinois in Champaigne, IL. He proudly served his country in the Army, during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Korea. Dan started his working career as a Local Union 73 Sheet Metal Worker with F.E. Moran Inc. from 1967 to1984. He then changed career paths to work for Mitutoyo America from 1984 to 2015, he held many positions with his last position as Field Service Manager. He also enjoyed 5 years working Concession Stands at the Masters – Augusta National. Additionally, he volunteered his time with the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and was a member of the Savannah River Rifle and Pistol Club.  

Other than his wife, Linda, his other true love was cooking for family and friends. Dan attended several cooking schools, Dumas Pere L’Ecole De La Cuisine Francaise in Glenview, IL, International Academy of Italian Cuisine in Lucca, Italy and New Orleans School of Cooking in New Orleans, LA. Some of his favorite things to cook were Pizza, Paella, Homemade Sausages, Barbeque, Smoked Meats and Chicken Wings. 

Dan will be greatly missed by his wife, Linda, his family and many friends. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at The Historic George Funeral Home, with visitation starting at 4:00 pm and the service will start at 5:00 pm.
