George Hammond Walton Sr., age 95, of Springfield, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19th, 2024, at his residence following an extended illness. 

He was born on Saturday, October 27th, 1928, in Saluda, SC to the late Thomas Pierce and Odessa Powell Walton, Sr.  George was a part of the greatest generation and served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He would go on to have a successful career as a Superintendent with South Carolina Department of Transportation.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Louise and Thomas Williams of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, George Hammond "Jake" Walton, Jr of St. Matthews, SC and James Acie and Lisa Walton of North, SC. In addition, he is also survived by a sister, Bobbie Rodgers of Batesburg-Leesville and grandchildren, Joshua Justice, Tiffany Vega, Nicole Suggs, Nathan Walton, Jason Alan and Beth Walton, Justin Acie and Amber Walton, and Tiffany Gelton; as well as great grandchildren, Savannah Williams, Alexis Lee, Jaylene Lee, Sydney Lee, Olivia Walton, Jackson Walton, Acie Walton, Marquise Walton, Reagan Walton, Alyssa Walton, Arianna Walton, Harley Walton, and Nicolas Walton. 

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rebecca Elise Walton as well as siblings, Ellie Hoover, Edna Walton, Mary Walton Blackston & Thomas Pierce Walton, Jr. 

Private services will be held at a later date.
