Obituary of Betty Irvine Merriman

AIKEN, SC – Betty Irvine Merriman, age 89, passed away Wednesday March 13th, 2024 at Barclay House of Aiken surrounded by family and friends.

Betty was born April 9th, 1934 in Bangor, Maine to the late Robert and Dorothy Irvine. She attended Brewer High School where she she was a cheerleader and active in her school.

Following high school she worked for General Electric Corporation as an administrative assistant.

Betty married Richard Merriman and they moved from Maine to Hamburg NY, Ridgefield CT then ultimately retiring to Aiken, SC. While in Ridgefield Betty was a successful Real Estate Agent with William Pitt/Sotheby's Real Estate Company. She also held a position on the board of The Ridgefield Playhouse and was a volunteer at ROAR in Ridgefield.

Betty was always very active in her community wherever she lived and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard Merriman and brothers James Irvine and Ronald Irvine. She is survived by her daughters Lisa Rutte (husband John) JoAnne Stuart (husband Robert) and grandchildren Lindsay Rutte, Monique Rutte, Mitchel Rutte and Rebecca Rutte.

Services and Burial will be private.
