Obituary of Geneva DeMaris Thompson
Mrs. Geneva DeMaris Goodwin Thompson, 80, beloved wife of Jack Eugene Thompson passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Anchor Post-Acute (formerly Anchor Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center) following an illness.
Born in Aiken on Saturday, May 29th, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ella Mae Seigler Goodwin. Mrs. Thompson was a retired educator and administrator with Aiken County Public Schools, having worked in the Aiken County Public School System for over 40 years. While working with ACPSD, Mrs. Thompson served at principal at North Aiken Elementary, as Special Educator Coordinator at ACPSD, a teacher in learning disabilities at South Aiken High and she helped create and start Pinecrest Alternative School where she would serve later as principal. She was a long time member of Aiken First Baptist Church. After her retirement, she would love to read. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition, she loved gardening. Her most precious times, however, were those that she was able to spend with her husband, daughter, grandchildren and other family.
Surviving include her daughter Abby (Craig) DeMaris Thompson-Caldwell, Daughter, of Boone, NC. 2 grandchildren: Genevieve Caldwell & Jack Caldwell of Boone, NC; 1 sister, Emily Eubanks of Sumter; 2 brothers, Haskell Goodwin & Iredell Goodwin of Gloversville, SC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marjorie Eubanks and Carolyn Mayberry; and 1 brother, Kenneth Goodwin
Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, February 2nd, 2024, at 3:00 pm in The Historic George Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 with Rev. John Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Graniteville Cemetery, 1355 Gregg Hwy, Graniteville, SC 29829.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649-6234.
