Obituary of Kathryn Wood Bradley
AIKEN, SC – Kathryn Wood Bradley, age 97, of Colleton Ave., passed away peacefully December 31, 2023.
Mrs. Bradley was born May 30, 1926, in Aiken, SC to the late Smith Everett Wood and Dorothy Mosley Wood. She lived in Aiken, SC until 1951 when she and her husband became seasonal residents. She followed her husband’s equestrian career and they later settled in Queens, NY in 1962 then later in Franklin Square for thirty years. She volunteered for many organizations wherever she lived. She was a volunteer for The Aiken Thoroughbred Museum, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus in NY, as well as her parish, St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Aiken, SC. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of The Aiken Golf Club. She will be remembered most for her love of family, especially for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis James Bradley Sr.; a sister, Ann Hill; brother-in-law, Fred Hill; and a nephew, Maurice Williams.
Survivors include a son, Francis James Bradley Jr. (Laura Jean); three grandchildren, Anastasia Sewell (Richard), Francis James Bradley III (Liz), and Patrick A. Bradley (Sophie); five great-grandchildren, Jeanmarie, Andrew, Connor, Francis IV, and Cara; two devoted nieces Cindy Owen (Kirk) and Georgia Williams; and great nieces and great nephews.
Friends may call on from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2024, at George Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will be held at 6:15 p.m. Thursday.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2024, at Old Historic St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Park Ave., with Father Richard Wilson as celebrant. Pallbearers will be Francis James Bradley III, Patrick A. Bradley, Connor P. Bradley, Jonathan Creighton Hentz, Kirk Owen, and Scott Ferguson.
Final prayers and commendation will follow in Bethany Cemetery (coroner of Laurens St. and Hampton Ave., Aiken, SC )
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Aiken SPCA or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
