Mrs. Elna Ruth Weber Conkelton, 91, widow of the late Henry Worster Conkelton, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday evening, October 19, 2023, following an extended illness. Friends will remember that she was always ready with a smile, a joke, and a recipe.
Mrs. Conkelton was born on May 24, 1932, in Teaneck, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Harry Weber and Ellen Regina Palm Weber Plenge. Elna was a 1950 graduate of Dumont High School. She received her Degree in Nursing from Christ Hospital in Jersey City, NJ, and began her nursing career there. Once she passed the state boards, she got a job working as a registered nurse at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ.
After marrying Henry and moving to RI, Elna took a nursing job at Kenty County Memorial Hospital in Warwick, RI, where she worked until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wickford, RI and St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, once she and her husband retired to Aiken. She loved to crochet, sew, decorate cakes, bake, read, and play bridge and Mahjong. She was a member of Aiken’s Newcomer’s Club, the Cedar Creek Ladies’ Club, book club, and the Out to Lunch Bunch. Elna also worked the third Saturday St. Thaddeus Soup Kitchen team for many years.
Mrs. Conkelton is survived by her daughter, Amy Conkelton, currently of Aiken.
