Aiken, SC -  Robert J. Sullivan, age 82, of Aiken, SC, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2023, with his devoted wife of 62 years by his side.  Bob was born on June 2, 1941, in Buffalo, NY to the late George and Elizabeth (Betty) Sullivan.  He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn (Agnello) Sullivan; their daughter Rebecca Sawyer (Jonathan) of Maryland; grandchildren Madeline, Abigail and Nathan; their son Patrick Sullivan of West Virginia.

In Bob’s earlier days, he enjoyed skiing, hunting, kayaking and being outdoors.  He loved to read about the civil War and his connection with William Sullivan, his great grandfather, whose life history played a significant role in developing Bob’s  love of history, especially the Civil War.

Bob worked as a Chemist for E. I. DuPont in Niagara Falls, NY, until his retirement in 2000.  He and Marilyn then moved to Aiken where they enjoyed a rich and full life together making many lifelong friends.

Bob was preceeded in death by his sister Alveah Baumgart and nephew Allen Baumgart.  He was also survived by two sisters, Sandy Flores and Patricia Sullivan; a dear nephew Daryl Baumgart (Anna) and their children, Harrison and Will who plan to continue the family history of William Sullivan; niece Sheila (Stan) Kruppner and their children Stephanie and Shelby; and nephew Harry Baumgart and his daughter Lynne.  Bob is also survived by his beloved dog Missy and his granddog Jamie.
