Obituary of Maurice Dale Mohr

Maurice Dale Mohr, 93, beloved husband of Shirley Frances Norris Mohr passed away peacefully at his home in Aiken Saturday evening, July 8, 2023.

Born in Shelby County, IN on June 19, 1930, he was the son of the late William & Mary Pyle Mohr. Mr. Mohr served his country with honor as a member of the United States Navy and the distinguished service inspired two of his grandsons to follow in his footsteps one serving in the United States Navy and the other in the United States Air Force. In his earlier days, Mr. Mohr served as a police officer for the city of Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Mohr always dreamed of owning a hardware store and that dream became a reality and he owned his store for 17 years. He and his wife had lived in Keystone Heights, Florida for many years and after retiring from the hardware store, he and Mrs. Mohr divided their time between their home in Balsam, NC and Aiken, SC. He was an avid golfer, having taken up the game at the age of 60. He was also an incredible card shark and there were many spirited games around the family table. He and his wife had just celebrated their 70^th wedding anniversary on July 3 of this year. Since Mrs. Mohr came from a family of 10 siblings, Mr. Mohr was always a brother rather than brother-in-law when it came to the Norris Clan. He was a man of determination, strength courage and believed that anything was possible with hard work.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter, Terri Morris of Aiken; a son, William Dale Mohr of Atlanta, GA; 3 grandchildren, Shane Robert Morris, Tyler William Morris, Mackenzie Morris and a great granddaughter, Evelyn Grace Morris.

Graveside services with Navy honors will be conducted on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 11:00 am in Southlawn Cemetery & Mausoleum with the Rev. K. Scott Ayers officiating.
