Obituary of Helen Irene Odell

Mrs. Helen Irene O’Dell, widow of the late Jimmy O’Dell passed away peacefully Friday morning, July 7, 2023 at the Carlyle Senior Care Center of Aiken following an extended illness.

Mrs. O’Dell was born on May 19, 1931 in Kentucky, a daughter of the late Joe Edgar & Opal Patricia Smith. She was retired from the University of South Carolina as an inventory control specialist. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters’-in-law, Jimmy Michael “Linda May” O’Dell of Cayce, SC, Larry O’Dell of Batesburg-Leesville, and Paul Timothy “Jill” O’Del of West Columbia; a sister, Vicky Smith of Lexington; a brother and sister-in-law, Don “Gaye” Smith of Covington, KY; grandchildren, Candi O’Dell, Jeanette O’Dell, Ruth O’Dell, Jimmy O’Dell, Jr., Rachel O’Dell & Evan O’Dell; 1 greeat-grandson.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased in death by a brother, Bud Smith.

Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 11:00am in the Historic George Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. K. Scott Ayers officiating.

Interment services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Aiken County Animal Shelter, 333 Wire Road, Aiken, SC 29803.
