Obituary of Gordon Albert Lewis

Gordon Albert Lewis, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, June 12, 2023 at Trinity on Laurens following an extended illness.

Born January 1, 1933 in London Ontario, Canada, Mr. Lewis was the son of the late Ronald C. & Hilda Frances Ellyatt Lewis. Gordon worked in the Telephone Industry for 43 years. Ge began his career with Bell Canada as a lineman and cable splicer. In 1968 he moved to Freeport, Bahamas, working for Continental Telephone and in 1972, he was transferred to Sylva NC as a first line Supervisor. In 1976, he was transferred to Bayou La Batre, Alabama where he was Service Center Supervisor. In 1980, he was promoted and transferred to Mt. Juliet, TN as manager of the Plant Department and Business Office. After the purchase of the telephone holdings in Tennessee by Telephone & Data Systems in 1981, he worked in many capacities for this company and did a lot of training in Madison, WI for them in the conversion from manual to mechanized plant records for numerous small companies across the USA. He retired in 1995 and moved to Florida. Following the death of his wife Natalie, he moved to Aiken, SC and married Dixie McCaskill. He was a Scout Master, Softball player, blood donor (over 41 gallons), avid walker and past Drum Major for the Aiken Sheriffs Pipe Band. He was an Active member of the Aiken Senior Men’s Club and life member of the Clan MacLeod Society of USA. He had traveled to Scotland, England, Barbados, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Hawaii.

He is survived by a sons, Jeffrey, Gregory, Bradley & Timothy, all of London, Ontario; stepchildren, John McCaskill of Columbia, SC and Rhonda Edwards of SC; a sister, June Aulis; a brother, Robert Lewis; grandchildren, Alexander, Timothy, Brian, Karen, Kristen, Scott & Monique, all of Ontario, Canada, Cameron Moore, McKenzie Sandel, & Daniel McCaskill , all in the United States.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Lewis was pre-deceased in death by a sister, Marion Moncur.

Private services will be held at a later date.
