I was very sad to hear of Sarah's passing. In the few years I've known her she's been an amazing inspiration. Always positive. Always at peace. And always happy to see Debbie and me. I remember her sitting down one morning when I stopped in (we were renting her unit next door) and she played a short recital on the piano for me with joy. It brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Sarah for being our friend. Love, Richard Santalesa and Debbie McWhirter.

Dear Melissa and Family,
I are so grateful for the rare and unforgettable beauty of your mother's warmth and generous spirit. I have described her many times to my family and friends. I meant to find more time for note taking sessions with her to learn more about her unique path to grace and creativity, which YOU have abundantly inherited. Please share more stories with our friends and community about her wonderful life of love and creativity.
Love and Gratitude,
Linda Hunley and Family

I have never known anyone like Sarah Rowan! She's been in my life and my family for probably 20 years! She was the most kind and caring person I've ever met! She always could see good and special gifts in every person she met! She loved unconditionally and always encouraged like only she could do, making sure they knew they were so very special! Oh, how I miss her!
Times of working together, sharing a meal together, sitting on her veranda, taking a boat ride and seeing her fall asleep, or just sitting at her table talking or on the phone; ALL cherished memories!
She was such a Blessing to me and my children always speaking into our lives as only Sarah could.
Thank you Melissa and Walter for sharing her with us! We will always be grateful and will never forget her..
May our Father comfort and strengthen you during this difficult time and may His Peace and Shalom rest upon you and the families.

The name Sarah can mean “princess of God,” which fit her very well. Her life displayed the love and selflessness of Jesus the Messiah. I first met Sarah when I was probably twelve or thirteen. Going to her house was like stepping into a fairytale. There was so much to see and Sarah was the guide to tell you the story behind every picture and piece. She was a master storyteller and loved the written and spoken word. She always had a word of love and encouragement. We would sometimes help clean her house. She would always exclaim her surprise at how much we accomplished with her typical, “My gosh!” I thank God that she is alive in Him today and that we will spend eternity together in the Resurrection. May each family member experience the comfort of walking in a relationship with Sarah’s God. With love to all.

I am so sad to see that Mrs. Rowan passed away. She was my first grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary. She made a huge impact on me as a child. I had a rough time in school that year and she was the most loving teacher. She used to rock me in her rocking chair when I was upset. She cared so much about the children she taught. At the end of the school year she gave me this beautiful picture (she said it reminded her of me) and this sweet note. I have kept them for over 40 years. Godspeed and rest in peace. You were a treasure who left a mark on many. To her family, I will keep you all in my hearts as you grieve for this beautiful soul.

We will cherish the treasure of times we shared with Aunt Sarah. Talking about the simple things and hearing words of wisdom and wit. An angel sent from above and now in the presence of God. Love and peace to the family. Bob, Mary & Patrick

I am saddened to hear of Mrs. Rowan’s passing. I had her as my first grade teacher. I can remember our field trip to her house on Center street in Ashland. It was something I will never forget. I pass that house often and would often think of her. She was such a sweet, caring women. She is one of the few teachers that had such an impact on my childhood. She was the reason so many looked forward to going to school. Heaven gained an amazing angel.

Heaven has gained an angel! Jack and I have known Sarah since we were students at Rowland High School in Rowland, NC, many years ago. This wonderful lady drove the school bus my sister, and I rode in 1954. She was driving the bus that took all of us home when Hurricane Hazel hit the area. Can you imagine the stress of dealing with a bus filled with children scared out of their minds? All I remember is how calm and reassuring Sarah was that we would get home safely.
I cannot tell you how delighted I was to see her beautiful smiling face at St. John's. Every Sunday, we always had to share a few "How is" or "Have you talked to" before the sermon.
I repeat...Heaven has a new angel!

“Think, think, think,” “Oh bother,” and “It’s not what we have, but who we have. Quotes from Winnie the Pooh. Sarah Rowan we have had the privilege of knowing you a little over a year. You are our angel and we are forever grateful to have been part of your life for these precious snippets of time. “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” We all knew it. “Sometimes the smallest things take the most room in our hearts.” You filled our hearts with love and many memories that we will cherish. We love you.

Meeting Sarah was such a blessing. I was at the cancer center having an infusion and she was there receiving treatment. The techs couldn't find a vein and, at one point, I noticed this beautiful woman with white hair watching me and she was crying. Across the room she mouthed "Are you ok?" I nodded and smiled. After my infusion I sat with her and chatted. And fell in love with her strength and attitude. She shared the name of her hairdresser with me and I get my hair cut monthly and we talk, every time, about Sarah. A 30-minute meeting with her made an indelible impression on me. I will never forget her. And I hope - when my time comes - she will be part of the welcoming committee into Heaven.
