Obituary of Richard Everett Edwards, Jr
Richard Everett Edwards, Jr., 66, beloved husband of Linda Clark Edwards, passed away peacefully at his home early Friday morning, May 26, 2023, after a brave and courageous fight against a rare form of cancer (EHE). Richard, the son of Richard Everett Edwards Sr. and Mary Louise Garmer Edwards, was born on May 24, 1957, in Wilmington, Delaware.
Richard obtained his Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech in 1980 and then received his Master of Science from the University of Tennessee in 1982. He retired after 40 years of service as a Deputy Chief Engineer with Savannah River Remediation. Richard was a member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church as well as a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at Georgia Tech. He treasured his golfing adventures on Hilton Head Island with his buzz buddies (Georgia Tech Alumni) and even got a hole-in-one on the Sea Pines Country Club Course. Richard loved eating seafood at the beach, photographing nature and horses, and walking his beloved golden retriever, Jake. Most importantly, he treasured each moment spent with his wife and family.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Everett Edwards, III & Sophia Huang of Seattle, WA; a daughter and son-in-law, Kari & Matt Cummons of Palm Bay, Florida; his sisters, Suzanne Louise Quigley of Fredericksburg, VA and Carolyn Louise Edwards of Knoxville, TN; a brother, Kenneth Everett Edwards of Bon Aqua, TN, and his best buddy and golden retriever, Jake.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, June 2, 2023, from 7:00pm until 8:30pm at the Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649.6234.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 2:00pm in the sanctuary of South Aiken Presbyterian Church, located at 1711 Whiskey Road, Aiken, SC 29803 with Rev. Jason Hammersley officiating. Savannah River Site coworkers and friends - please gather in the church's entrance to walk in as honorary pallbearers.
A private family interment will take place following the service at Pineview Memorial Gardens, 450 W. Five Notch Road, North Augusta, SC 29841.
