Obituary of Marion Kennedy Oglesby

AIKEN, SC- Marion Kennedy Oglesby, age 89, of Valley Dr., passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015 at her residence. Mrs. Oglesby was born May 3, 1926 in Florence County, SC to the late Alfred L. and Mary Ellen Bailey Kennedy. She had made Aiken, SC her home for the past 63 years and was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church since 1954. Mrs. Oglesby was a home-maker for most of her life until she went to work at J. B. White's to help put her daughter through school. She enjoyed playing bridge, teaching Sunday School at Millbrook, and was very health conscious before it was popular, and later in life traveled the country with her late husband for fourteen years prior to his health declining. She will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Oglesby was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Augustus "Ray" Oglesby and eleven brothers and sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Christie Sanders Gracey (Jeffery), Aiken, SC; a son, Steve Oglesby, Aiken, SC; six grandchildren, Marion Elizabeth Moreno (Manny), Austin, TX, Alyssa Faye Sanders, Plugerville, TX, Sheryl Sanders, St. Petersburg, FL, Marty Flowers, Rock Hill, SC, Jamie Flowers, Eaton, OH, Patricia Flowers, Raleigh, NC; three great-grandchildren, Auggie Moreno, Max Moreno, and Raymond Estrada; and five step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Millbrook Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Chris Masters will officiate. Private family interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, 140 Stoneridge Dr., Suite 210, Columbia, SC 29210.
