Obituary of Edward John Vaarwerk Jr

     Edward John Vaarwerk, Jr., 79, loving husband of Mary Elizabeth Hoffner Vaarwerk passed away Sunday March 19, 2023 following a short illness.

     Mr. Vaarwerk was born on June 20, 1943 in Buffalo, New York, a son of the late Edward John & Deloris Schwartz Vaarwerk, Sr. He was retired from the Unites States Government having worked as a management analyst with the National Cancer Institute. He was a veteran of the United State Navy.  He loved playing golf at the Reserve Club and enjoyed carrying on conversations with his friends. He was full of personality and knowledge. He loved his crossword puzzles, reading and a good martini.

     Surviving in addition to his wife are his brother and sister-in-law, Victor & Beverly Vaarwerk of Buffalo, NY and his sister-in-law, Rosemarie Bannigen of Concord, NC.

     A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 27, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Mary Help of Christians Church,  Park Ave SE, Aiken  SC with Father Orlando Serrano-Ardila as celebrant. Interment services will take place later in Calvary Cemetery in Pennsylvania.

     A visitation and reception will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. at the Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649-6234.

     In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Children’s Inn at NIH, 7 West Drive, Bethesda, MD, 20814.
