Obituary of Curtis Leon Young
Please share a memory of Curtis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Augusta, GA – Curtis Leon Young, 79, Beloved husband of 60 years to Jean Barham Young, passed away February 27, 2023, at Anchor Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Aiken following an illness. He was born April 29, 1943, to the late Leon and Hazel Roach Young in Arkansas. Curtis was a volunteer fireman who ran his own grocery store and attended Arkansas State University before transferring to Memphis State University. While living in Tennessee, Curtis was a member of Troy Methodist Church, where he also owned and operated another grocery store of his own.
Curtis was known to love the water; he owned a boat and would fish off of it. He enjoyed golfing, camping, watching sports and helping out as a coach for the local little league team. He would often take the team back to his grocery store to feed them after games! He is remembered to have never sat down and always stayed busy, but also for the impact he made on children. Curtis sold medical equipment outside of operating his grocery store and he specialized in children’s wheelchairs.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter, his sister, and several grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in Curtis’ name be made to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Doctor’s Hospital of Augusta, GA and Anchor Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Aiken, SC.
