Myrtle Read Rearden passed away peacefully at the amazing age of 100 on February 23rd, 2023, in Burleson Texas.

She was born October 8, 1922, in Midville, Georgia, to the late William Embry and Leola Mae (Robinson) Read. Myrtle married the love of her life, William Thomas Rearden (Bill) in 1941 in Aiken, South Carolina.  Bill preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by brothers Embry, John, Postell, Silas and James Read and sisters Ola Fuller, Elizabeth Faust and Ruth Adam.

Myrtle worked in Tacoma, Washington during World War II.  She held several secretarial positions after the war until she acquired a position at the Atomic Energy Commission in 1951 as a Public Information Specialist.   She worked tirelessly and in her manager’s words “brought professionalism and hard work to the department”.  She retired after 31 years in 1984 to be at home with her husband and father-in-law.  She attended South Aiken Presbyterian Church, but in later years returned to Langley- Bath Methodist Church.  She explained to many how important her faith and belief in our Lord had led her everyday life.

Left to cherish her memory are two children, Roy E. (Marlene) Rearden of Ormond Beach, Florida and Joyce (Jerry) Serville of Burleson, Texas.  Loves of her life were her grandchildren, Michelle (Al) Snyder of Mishawaka, Indiana, Ken (Glenda) Webb of Green Bay Wisconsin, and Jerry (Aimee) Serville of Ft. Worth, Texas Ellen (Patrick) Davis Cross, South Carolina, Emily Stonick Roanoke, Virginia and Elisha Branton Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Ed Erne (Karen); great grandchildren Hannah Gebert, Baxter Gebert, Maddox Snyder, Jerry (Trip) Serville, Hollen Serville, Alice Serville, Emma Davis, Mackenzie Davis, Clair Stonick, Ryan Stonick, Grace Branton, Luke Branton, Elizabeth Erne, Andrew Erne, Jospeh Erne, and Michael Erne, great-great grandchildren Lily Blackburn, Charlotte Gibbs and Lola Gibbs.

Myrtle was a loving and a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed cooking meals for relatives and friends.  She will always be remembered for her chicken and dumplings and chats over coffee.
