Ernest, I am so fortunate to have know you a little, however your greatest gift for me was your son who became a wonderful son-in-law. Joseph really cares for his family and is very protective of it. Now we see why Joseph's faith is strong as you were a role model for him. Thanks for Joseph who is a fine man and we are lucky to have him in our family circle.

Terri Spencer, sending regrets to the whole family of Ernest that I am unable to attend his service. McDonald and Charlie, to lose a sibling is incredibly difficult-and I know this from some family experience. You are on my mind and in my heart! Gregg and Joe, you guys don't remember me, but I have known you both since you were inside your Mother--and outside! I knew you both as babies, as toddlers, as elementary school aged kids, as older ones and would hear how you both were doing, what you were doing, etc. So you and your families will be in my Mother's heart and prayers. Leslie told me this: "Ernest is a good Father." I knew the first apartment you all lived in while in Columbia and remember hearing Ernest getting ready to run an errand and you boys would ask to go and "Yay" happily when he always said yes. I was at the house in Irmo, with always the one candle in the window. "Keep your kids involved in sports; they won't have time for any real trouble along with school," advised Leslie wisely. I listened and we did-with our girls and son! These families go so far back- and I have a funny, sweet story about your Grandad and remembering Joseph's birthday-calling ME- not wanting to admit to anybody in his family that he'd "lost" your birthdate-but he sure remembered that my Jenna Rose was born on the same day and called me up. He swore me to secrecy but right now, I think-I hope- he would approve and agree, a bit of humanity and foibles creating some small bit of mirth, is appropriate. When I became ill from working at the plant, he hunted down the picture he had taken of me working which he had put in the Newsletter and then wrote an unsolicited and knowledgeable letter, on my behalf, to whomever it may concern. I have all of that. How kind-and how true to the mark he was. The writing ability and creativity and dedication to each other, their children, their church and their friends was remarkable in their Christian walk. I feel very sad for all who loved and cared for Ernest. Betsy said the same thing in her e-mail to me about it. Although I wrote before and kept it short. I just couldn't stand the thought of these family members, who even came to Jenna's Christening party at my parent's home after the special event-you had on one sock and shoe, Joseph-Leslie thought it was funny and so did I that she could only find that one and not the matching one and kept switching them to the other foot-to think that I would not want to attend. Unfortunate health matters keep me from being able to but ALL of you are SO on my minds- as you can obviously tell. Someone, please, play some Willie in his honor. We used to listen to a lot of albums together. With so much love and Christian energy and just cool vibes coming your way as you go through the process tomorrow and help each other through the hard times, again, I know that you all will continue and go on and on. You came from some fine people and have led lives that they were and always will be happy about and proud of! My deep sympathies, Terri Spencer (Wiliams)

To Greg, Joe, Charlie, McDonald, and the rest of the Family,
I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I met Ernest in high school and he was a part of my life one way or another for the last 50 years. I remember visiting his home while we were in school, it was jumbled in the most fun way, with books scattered everywhere. I loved it. There were AHS teen adventures with Ernest including: Presenting the Home Room Teacher of the Year Award; Sons of Lithuania bulletin boards; Selling Spirit dirt and so on. Yes, all of those were extremely dumb, but so much fun. Ernest possessed an exuberance for life.
He was mischievous, with sparkling blue eyes. He almost always pulled for the underdog, unless it was against The U of South Carolina. Once we went to a Tar Heels BB game in Charlotte and as usual, Ernest pulled for the underdogs. As a Davidson player named Curry burned my Tar Heels, Ernest's grin got bigger and bigger. He gave me a fit all the way back home and loved every single second of it.
As I married Fran and as we had kids(Trey, Nathan, Brandon), Ernest and Leslie(Bless her too) had Greg and Joe. We would occasionally get together, play, goof off, eat, or whatever came up. We traded turns sending each other idiotic RONCO items COD, and talking sportspoliticslifetheuniverse&idiots. There was always something to talk about. LOL We would sometimes get together to see a concert with Willie, Emmy Lou, Jerry Jeff Walker, or many others, including the infamous Pure Prairie League spring break show.
Over time, I drifted away a bit, we moved to Austin, TX and life started moving fast. But Ernest still called, he always did. We would chat and he would catch me up on things, talk some music, and I would go back to work caught up in startup business insanity. He always called.
Someone mentioned in here his gentleness, kindness, genuine human affection and his caring. nature. Those were qualities Ernest had in spades. If he felt he wronged someone, it literally hurt him and caused him pain. He cared. Man, I miss him.
I still see that wry grin out there, somewhere, I just wish it was here.

Q: What will you miss most about Ernest?
A: Ernest and I texted each other daily for the past 9 months. He always said that he was praying for my wife Gennie (who has stage 4 lung cancer), me and our family. I always responded and told him thanks and that we were also praying for him and his family. We had additional texts during this time discussing our relationships with our Lord Jesus Christ, our South Carolina Gamecocks and the moral decay of our nation, among other things. We always called ourselves good friends, so in closing, My Good Friend, I miss those daily texts and your prayers. We will continue to pray for your family and look forward to seeing you soon at the feet of Jesus. Rest in His loving arms! We love you. Dennis & Gennis

Terri and Betsy Spencer send their love, prayers and heartfelt condolences and hopes for some peace and understanding and the ability to grieve as needed to the long-loved Law Family members. We have cherished and will continue to remember the long and supportive history with all of the Laws. We knew and loved Leslie-she and I had a child born the same day (Joseph and Jenna) and she called me from her hospital to mine in Columbia, to rejoice together! She and dearest Ernestine gave me a beautiful party to welcome me back to Aiken at the Rollingwood home. Such a lovely and lengthy relationship, starting with my parents, Bob and Frances Spencer and Don and Ernestine and moving forward. I am happy to see the grandchildren!! We are so terribly sorry about Ernest. With love and in Grace, Terri Spencer and sister Betsy Spencer

To all my friends of the extended Law family:
Ernest was a valued friend and will be missed. Many years ago we ran together, even the Cooper River Bridge. Lately, we walked the Kalmia Hill trails and Rollingwood Drive. Our walks were always refreshing and filled with laughter. Ernest was compassionate and I remember when a mutual friend, Sister Peterkin, passed away; he contacted the State Newspaper and had them print a special and appropriate tribute to Sister. We would go to Ridge Springs for lunch and visit his parents' graves at the beautiful cemetery there. I will think of him often in the days to come. Every good wish,
Rooney Floyd--Aiken , S. C.

We are truly shocked. My husband and I have been in contact with Earnest almost daily via Facebook messenger for the past year or so and have been praying for each other in regard to job aspirations and health issues. We knew him from Cornerstone PCA Church many years ago. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to Earnest's family.

Ernest and I were the best of friends growing up, through grade school, junior high, and high school. He lived just a short bike ride away on Rollingwood Road, and I fondly recall many youthful hours spent playing basketball on his side-yard court, and playing pool in the Laws' garage. (Ernest was way better than I was at pool!)
I also recall Ernest and I tying up our families' phone lines on lengthy calls during our teenage years as he patiently explained how to solve math homework problems that seemed over my head. (Ernest was always exceptional at math!)
Ernest's parents always welcomed me at their home, even when his mom was ill for extended periods, and I think Ernest got a lot of his sensitivity and compassion from them.
Living on the West Coast for most of my adult life, I saw Ernest only infrequently in our post-school years. But, on those occasions when we were in touch or did get together, he remained the kind, gentle, friendly soul who was such a big part of my childhood. Ernest, I will miss you, and I wish you everlasting peace.

To the family,
I am deeply sorry for the loss of Ernest. I moved to Aiken when I was four and I met Ernie riding bikes with several friends on Rolling Wood Road. It was such a great neighborhood for kids and we all went in and out of homes every day. The young Ernie was a nice boy and always full of fun.
He and my big brother worked together at the Aiken Standard and just two weeks ago Ernie reached out to ask me how Chuck died. He told me about working with my brother and a funny story about an assignment they did. He told me how much he liked Chuck.
I can hardly believe Ernie passed two weeks later but I’m glad we spoke about my beloved brother.
Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. We know God has him and he will always be healthy and at peace. May you find comfort in one another and in the special memories of a good man. May he rest in peace with our Lord.
