Obituary of Ralph G Carpenter, III
Ralph Gray “Pete” Carpenter, III, beloved husband of Jan Morris Carpenter, passed away Sunday morning, January 8, 2023 at Shadow Oaks Assisted Living following an extended illness.
Born in Springfield, MA on October 4, 1948, he was the son of the late Ralph Gray Carpenter, Jr. & Marion Ramsay Johnson. He was the retired owner of Carpenter Siding in Aiken. Pete was a United States Army Veteran and served in Vietnam. He was a member of the Midland Valley Community Church of the Nazarene in Graniteville.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 35 years are his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Tina Carpenter of Aiken; 3 brothers, Ronnie (Vicki) Carpenter of Milton, FL, Chuck Carpenter of Leminster, MA and Roger Carpenter of Hudson, MA; mother-in-law, Ann Morris of Aiken and brother-in-law, Bob Visco of Hudson, MA. He was the proud grandfather of Trinity Carpenter. He will be missed by his fur buddies, Toby and PeeWee.
In addition to his parents, Pete was pre-deceased by a brother, Randy Carpenter.
Pete was a great athlete, who loved life and had many hobbies during retirement where he made new friends. He enjoyed golf, pool, playing cards (you never knew how many people would be around the card table) and checking out cars for sale. Pete was always first in line to lend a helping hand – many will remember Pete’s compassionate heart and love of our Lord and Savior.
The past few years Pete and Jan enjoyed shag dancing at the Aiken County Shrine Club. They made many friends there and Pete always tried to make sure that everyone had a good time. As dementia took his mind and Parkinson’s Disease took his body, he battled back by dancing and not letting that rob his joy in life.
The family would like to express their thanks to the caring staff at Shadow Oaks Assisted Living.
