Obituary of Elizabeth Pinckney Darr

AIKEN, SC – Elizabeth “Bessie” Pinckney Darr passed away peacefully on January 8, 2023 in Aiken SC at the age of 97. Daughter of William Eustace Pinckney and Ella Pritchard Pinckney, Elizabeth was born May 11, 1925 in Bluffton, SC. She grew up on her family’s farm that she shared with 15 brothers and sisters.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Donald Darr and son Micheal Darr. She is survived by daughters Elizabeth (Mike) Finnegan, Martha (Stephen) Gooding, Jeanette (Danny) Triplett, and son Keith (Eva) Darr. She is also survived by two siblings Dorothy (Dot) Pinckney Gnann and Henry Pinckney as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. 

Elizabeth attended Lander College before moving to Washington, DC and later moved to Savannah GA where she met and married her husband of 70 years.  She  enjoyed storytelling, family gatherings and quiet prayer.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Andrews Chapel, Bluffton, SC at 12 noon on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. A graveside service will follow at Pinckney Family Cemetery in Bluffton, SC.
