Elayne and I were friends for over 12 years. She was smart, feisty, determined, stubborn - she called it "independent". She owned her own travel agency in Manhattan for years and was SO savvy about traveling, which she and Phil loved to do. We locked horns occasionally, but always reconciled by the end of the conversation. I often drove her to doctor appointments the last 3 years or so, and we had lively chats. She knew more shortcuts than I did and I'm the native Aikenite. She had a quick wit and good sense of humor. Married to the love of her life for 67 years, her late husband Phil was a darling man and the yin to her yang. She missed him terribly these past 6 years. I will miss her very much, but I know she is in heaven, holding Phil's hand again at long last.
