Obituary of Elaine Carr

Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

AIKEN, SC: Barbara Elaine Carr, 79, wife of Norman Elliott Carr, of Aiken, passed away August 30, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Born August 10, 1943 in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Norman Vincent and Minnie Rae Willis Vincent.

While Elaine was born in Providence, her family moved several times before settling in Aiken, South Carolina.  In 1961, she graduated from Aiken High School and attended college.  After several years, she moved with her parents to Massachusetts where she met and married Norman Carr.  They eventually moved to Aiken where she lived for the rest of her life.

Elaine had many hobbies including traveling.  Some of her favorite trips were when she visited her son at his various National Park Service jobs.  She also loved history and enjoyed learning new things on her adventures.  She was also an avid collector.  It didn’t matter what it was – she collected it!  Halloween was her favorite holiday!

One of Elaine’s greatest passions was to be with her grandchildren and watch them grow.

Elaine loved her family but loved her animals too.  Her favorite cat, Razor, will miss her terribly but she’ll be reunited with her favorite dog, Flame.

She had a very strong faith.  She was a member of St Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, where she attended regularly. She also worked and volunteered at St. Mary’s School so she could be close to children.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; maternal grandparents, Daniel and Eva (Nunn) Willis; and Paternal grandparents, Oscar and Fabiana (LeBlanc) Vincent.

Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years; her son, Layton Carr, Alexandria, VA; her daughter, Crystal Carr , Aiken, SC ; her grandchildren, Austin and Brandon Cowell and Shianne Twitty, Aiken, SC; her brothers, Daniel and Chandler Vincent, Aiken, SC; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special Thank You to the staff of Edgefield Post Acute Nursing Home for all of their love and care during her stay.

A Requiem Mass will be held Monday, November 7, 2022 at 10AM at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fairfield St. with the Very Reverend Gregory Wilson as Celebrant.  The family will greet friends following Mass in Mother Theresa Hall.

Memorials may be made in Elaine’s memory to The Aiken SPCA, 199 Willow Run Rd, Aiken, SC 29801.
