Obituary of Joel Martin Peecook

     Joel Martin Peecook, 86, widower of the late Eleanor H. Niek Peecook, passed away Friday evening, June 24, 2022 at the Aiken Regional Medical Center.

     Mr. Peecook was born on November 30, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio a son of the late John Montgomery & Esther Christine Martin Peecook.  Mr. Peecook proudly served in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Fenn College and spent his business career in Property and Casualty Insurance starting as an Assistant Marine Underwriter and retiring as Regional Vice President for the Northwestern National Insurance Company. Mr. Peecook retired to Aiken in 1996 with his wife and loved a good game of golf, traveling the world, reading a good book, watching his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes or peacefully sailing the water. He was a devoted and loving husband, companion, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

     Mr. Peecook is survived by his loving companion of 13 years, Nancy Scruggs of Aiken; two daughters and son-in-laws, Jennifer & John Hyll of Pasadena, CA and Katie & Jack Roth of Aiken; a son and daughter-in-law, John & Sandy Peecook of Dublin, OH; a brother, Jeffrey Peecook of Prescott, AZ, a sister-in-law, Terri Peecook of Cumming, GA; a brother-in-law, Rich Darmstadt of Elyria, OH; and his grandchildren, John Ayrton Hyll, Michael Roth & Tricia Smith, Perry Roth & Anna Grudskaya, Leah & Dennis Heil and John Brandon Peecook, Jr.

     In addition to his parents & wife of 50 years, Mr. Peecook was pre-deceased by siblings, John Montgomery Peecook, Jr., Joyce Darmstadt, James Patrick Peecook, & Andrew Holm Peecook.

    Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 3:00p.m. in the Historic George Funeral Home Chapel. Interment services with military honors will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.

     The family will receive friends from 1:00p.m. until 3:00p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at the Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649.6234.

     In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare SPCA, 199 Willow Run Road, Aiken, SC 29801.
