Obituary of Lillie R. Tate

AIKEN, SC – Lillie Rhyne Tate, age 97, entered fully into the presence of the Lord on May 15, 2022.

Mrs. Tate was born August 12, 1924, in Gastonia, NC to the late James Arthur Rhyne and the late Ola Clawson Rhyne. She was an administrative assistant and retired from the State of Georgia’s Warm Springs Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Tate had been a resident of Aiken, SC for the past twenty-four years and a member of Millbrook Baptist Church. She was a voracious reader and will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theron S. “Chick” Tate; a son, Jeffrey Rhyne Tate; and a sister, Margaret Rhyne Sparks.

Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Tate Allen; three grandchildren, Jason Rhyne Tate (Ashlee Avera Tate), Eric Ewing Tate, and Erin O’Brien Franks (Rev. John M. Franks); four grandchildren, Callie, Anna Bray, and Caleb Franks and Matthew Rhyne Tate; and a daughter-in-law, Valerie Otap Tate.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Millbrook Baptist Church Chapel with the memorial service following at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel.

Private interment will precede the service in Southlawn Cemetery.
