Obituary of Joan F York

Joan F. York, 85, passed peacefully on December 29^th at Anchor Rehab in Aiken, SC. She was the wife for over 61 years to George York. She moved to South Carolina in August of 2020 to be with her family. Joan was born March 5, 1936 in Waterbury, CT, daughter of the late Carl and Marion Froelich. She was the co-owner, with her husband, of Pomperaug Auto Service in Woodbury for almost 30 years.

She was truly one of the sweetest, most faithful women and she touched the hearts of everyone she met. She graduated from Crosby High School in 1954. Joan enjoyed singing, playing the piano for her church, doing counted cross stitch and spending time with her family. She delighted in watching UCONN basketball, and her beloved Red Sox. Joan and George loved spending winters in Scottsdale and Myrtle Beach.

She was predeceased by her husband, George. She is survived by her son, George (Judy) York of Aiken, SC; her daughter Linda (Gordon) Gage of Arizona; her sister, Carol (Gerald) Castonguay of Massachusetts and her sister Lois (David) Schwartz of Pennsylvania; her grandson, Jeffrey (Priyanka) York of Atlanta,; her granddaughter, Samantha York of Boston; her great granddaughter, Indira; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held via Zoom at a later date.
