Please share a memory of Hilda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hilda Lindsay Stanberry, formerly of Swain Co, NC, passed away November 10, 2021 at her son’s home in Aiken, SC
Hilda was born August 8, 1926 in Almond, Swain County, NC, to John and Fannie Lindsay. Most of her life was in Swain Co., but she also lived in Candler, Cary and Sylva, NC, as well as Aiken, SC in her final years. Hilda was a loving wife to Ralph, who preceded her into heaven eighteen years ago. She was a wonderful mother to four sons, who are still living, and one daughter, who passed in childbirth. She was known in her community as a talented leader, teacher, student, and friend. Hilda never met a stranger. She was always upbeat and optimistic, infecting others with her attitude. She impacted so many people, guided lives, and provided an excellent role model to all those around her. She enjoyed so many things in her long life. She was a pianist, a teacher, a carpenter, a farmer, a Cub Scout leader. She loved her flowers and they grew strong under her care. She loved her churches and was instrumental in keeping Almond Baptist Mission alive and praising the Lord for many years. She was best known for holding your face, looking right in your eyes, and telling you how much she loves you.
She was the last of her family on this earth, but she is reunited with them all now. She will be lovingly remembered by all those she touched, including her four sons, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren
A memorial and graveside service will be held next spring, when the mountain flowers are in bloom. The services will be held at Almond Baptist Mission with Larry Donaldson officiating.
