Tired from decades of swimming indoors, I switched to the monotonous down-and-back, and the blue skies of summer, at the outdoor Reserve Club pool in 2019. That's the summer when I met Frank. You see, Frank and I were regular, hardcore swimmers. Knowing there's safety in numbers when swimming without a lifeguard on duty, Frank and I would look forward to seeing each other in the early hours as the sun would rise above the tall pines surrounding the pool. It's a beautiful site.
After swimming we would begin discussing current events, talk about family and politics, and share memories about trips and imagine what it would be like to see places we longed to visit. I looked forward to our conversations and wondered "Where's Frank?" when he didn't show. Next summer when I swim at the pool Frank will exist in my memories, and fond memories they will be. I will miss you Frank V. Yurcan. Your Swimming Buddy, Paul Newsom
