Obituary of Martha Baker Carver

Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

AIKEN, SC: Martha Baker Carver, 85, widow of Carl Lawrence Carver, passed away August 24, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born March 3, 1936 in Warrenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Willie Baker and Bessie Mae McGahee Baker.

Born and raised in Warrenville, she was a graduate of Leavelle McCampbell School.  She later went on to work for Graniteville Company and Owens Corning Fiberglass, where she worked for 25 years.  When Mrs. Carver was a young girl, she was a girl scout and dearly loved to tell her children about her Troop Leader, Miss Margaret.

She was a longtime member of Marion St. Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU.  She also was their beloved softball coach, having coached all of her children! She later joined the Lighthouse Baptist Church in 1994, where she was actively involved as well.

More than anything however, she loved her family.  She enjoyed her time with them while fishing and to gather at their house at Lake Murray, where they always welcomed everyone!  Her motto was “the more the merrier!”  She loved the Braves and the Carolina Gamecocks.

Ms. Martha is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years; her sisters, Mary Holley, Doris Jenkins and Orell Byers; and her brother, Billy Baker.

She is loving remembered by her children, Martha Jean Griffin (Bobby), Maryann Campbell (Fred), Margie Taylor (Ben), Marsha Aubuchon (Gerry), Carl Carver (Marlo) and her dear daughter-by-love, Janice McMicheal; her 16 grandchildren; her 30 great-grandchildren; her 3 great-great grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Patricia Baker.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2094 Columbia Hwy N, Aiken, with Pastor Marion Britton officiating. Burial to follow at Aiken Memorial Gardens.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.  Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
