Obituary of Eleanor H Rorex

Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

AIKEN, SC – Eleanor H. Rorex, 101, of Aiken, SC, passed away August 11, 2021 in the comfort of her daughter’s home, where she had resided for the past 17 years.

Born in Carmi, Illinois, on February 2, 1920 to the late Carson L. and Lora Ann Vinyard Hughes, she met and married Edward C. Rorex in Carmi, Illinois on August 26, 1939.  Four children were born of this union; William Leroy (deceased), Judith R. Russell, Aiken, SC, Sandra R. Gerland, (the late William A. Gerland), Aiken, and James Edward (Donna), Quartz Hill, CA.  Surviving also are seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one niece and three nephews.

Eleanor had one brother, two sisters, and a half-sister, all deceased.

Eleanor loved her family and was a wonderful homemaker and mother.  However, God came first to her, and she walked and talked the love of her heavenly Father all the days of her life.  She died an easy death, peaceful in her Father’s arms.

The family would like to thank all of the employees of Regency Hospice whose care and empathy to our mother made her passing easier.  We also would like to thank all of our friends, neighbors, employees of the church and George Funeral Home for all of their outpouring of love and support during this sad time in our lives.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2:00PM in the chapel of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Richland Ave entrance.  Dr. Tim McClendon and Rev. Butch Blackwell will be officiating.

The family requests that those in attendance please wear a mask.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John’s United Methodist Church, PO Box 809, Aiken, SC 29802.
