Obituary of Charles H Cato

     Charles Hubert Cato, Sr., 69, beloved husband of Paula Marie Phelon Cato, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, June 23, 2021 following an extended illness which he handled with great strength and dignity. Although he is no longer on this earth, his presence will last forever within the lives of his family, friends and those he touched along the way.

    Born on June 21, 1952, he was the son of the late Ralph and Mary Corley Cato. Mr. Cato was the owner of Chucky’s Automotive Repair Shop and was the former Fire Chief of the Eureka Voluntary Fire Department. He was a member of the Aiken Horsepower Club and was a vintage enthusiast of all kinds.

     Surviving in addition to his wife are 3 sons and their wives: Charles & Kelley Cato, Jr. of Columbia, SC; Chris & Kristin Cato of North Augusta, SC and Alex & Morgan Bafford of Trenton, SC; 1 daughter and her husband, Jordan & Michael LaChance of Aiken; 2 sisters and brothers-in-laws, Cindy & Randy Whitt of Aiken and Vera & Michael Evans of GA; 7 grandchildren, Mason, Sydney, Ava, Ashton, Gage, Jonas & Harley.

     Mr. Cato was predeceased in death in addition to his parents by a son, Jeremy Cato and a brother, Gene Cato.

     Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, June 27 at 3:00pm in Aiken Memorial Gardens with the Rev. K. Scott Ayers officiating. Pallbearers and Honorary Escort will be the members of the Eureka Fire Department.

     The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Saturday afternoon at the Historic George Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken, SC 29801 803.649.6234

     The family requests that any of Mr. Cato’s friends with muscle & performance cars please meet at the Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center on Sunday at 2:15pm to process along with the family to Aiken Memorial Gardens for the graveside service.

     In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Multiple Systems Atrophy Foundation C/O TGen Foundation, 445 North 5th St., Suite 120, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
