AIKEN, SC: Barron LeRoy Lindsay, age 77, born August 11, 1943, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021. He was a resident of Aiken, South Carolina, and native of Herrin, Illinois. He was the son of Samuel LeRoy and Peggy Jeanne Lindsay.
He was a graduate of Herrin Township High School, 1961. He met his high school sweetheart, Marianne McEvers, in the school band where he played drums and she the saxophone. They were wed on June 18, 1965. Barry began his career at (CTI) Central Technologies Inc. in Herrin, Il shortly after completing his studies at Rolla School of Mines and Meteorology in Rolla, MO. In his free time, he enjoyed playing drums for a local band “The Vibrations”. His love of drums ran deep, playing all things percussion including the piano. A 2nd job opportunity arose for him at Maxon, naval ordinance plant, in Macon, GA. The couple uprooted from their hometown and moved to Macon where they lived for over 50 years. Shortly after the birth of their only child (1969), Pyrotechnic Specialties Inc. (PSI), hired him at their plant where explosive products for defense and ammunition/compositions and fuses were manufactured in Byron, GA. Barry became well known for his expertise in this industry nationwide during his 43-year tenure as a Quality Control Manager. He was very happy to have found his calling and offer his help. During this time, home computers were introduced to the world. He quickly became fascinated and started a side business working from home to write programs for local small businesses. Barry retired from PSI one year earlier than he had hoped at age 69 due to the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
