I was very saddened to hear of Daryl's passing. I had the opportunity to meet Daryl only once, when he was a member of the the Woodside POA Architectural Review Board, and he reviewed my application to have a deck built on my property. Daryl took the time to personally visit my home and view the proposed location of the deck. We chatted briefly after the inspection and learned that Daryl's son's in-laws and my daughter and her family lived at the same golf course community in Savannah - The Landings. Daryl was kind enough to provide me with his preferred route from Woodside to The Landings, and even followed up with an email containing the directions a short while later. We also discussed golf, with Daryl noting that he played at the Reserve Club two or three times a week. When I told him that it had been several years since I played at all but was in the process of getting back into the game, he extended an invitation to join his group whenever I felt comfortable enough that I had "knocked the rust off" of my swing. I will always remember Daryl for his welcoming personality and the kindness that he showed me that day. Please accept the sincere condolences of my wife and myself on his passing. The Karall family extends its condolences and best wishes to Carolyne and to Daryl's extended family on news of his passing. What an interesting and fruitful life he had - but it only makes it seem sadder that his saga doesn't continue! As shared by others here, Daryl could engage you in a discussion on most any topic, because he had an insatiable curiosity and so enjoyed the "lively art of conversation". While working for him, there were many occasions where he and I disagreed (sometimes loudly), but he always allowed you to make your point and was fair enough to concede to a better idea when it was merited. Also like so many others here, the more fun exchanges were on topics such as baseball, BBQ, chili, basketball and anecdotes from his many travels. So many times I would pass his office and be called in to hash an idea out or have him share a joke. He LOVED a good joke, and he always had that twinkle in his eyes when he had one to tell. He also manufactured tortuous puns on a regular basis. Above all, he cherished his family. He was SO proud of all of his clan. Cheers to a life well-lived! RIP Daryl

I was fortunate to know Daryl when he lived in Chicago. My wife Janet and I greatly enjoyed spending time with Carolyne and Daryl. I connected with Daryl on many topics but we always talked about baseball, barbecue, technology, and society. I will miss those conversations. I am greatly saddened by his loss and wish Carolyne and the family my most sincere condolences.

I write this with a heavy heart and a fair amount of continual disbelief. Daryl was a friend to me. A man of many talents, strong in his personal beliefs, consummately confident in all that he attempted, highly intelligent, friendly to all that he met, and possessive of that rare commodity in today's world, basic common sense! I am fortunate to have been able to call him friend. I will sorely miss our e-mail "joke" exchange; but more importantly I will miss his views of life that he shared from time to time--he had this uncanny ability to balance that in which he believed, and that which others believed; with the "bigger picture" of life; and in doing so brought forth a sense of humanity and compassion from all those involved. May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Carolyne and to the McPherson family. Mr. McPherson was an active, witty, charming person, smart and sharp as a tack, and he spread those traits to his children, who have been my friends for nearly 40 years. The photo accompanying this obituary is how I remember him -- smiling. He treated me with respect even when I had no business earning it. Here's to Mr. McPherson and, again, condolences to his family.
