Funeral services for Mr. James Erskine Batton, Sr., will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at 2 PM at George Funeral Homes, Southside Chapel, 3175 Whiskey Rd., Aiken, SC with Pastor Michael Dyar and Dr. Steve Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, Aiken. Pallbearers will be Bill Bishop, Bill Lynn, Darrell Richardson, Benny Kidd, John Harkins, and Sanford Bryant. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Jenkins, Danny Smalley, John Quarles, Don Soule, Jack Reed, Dr. Henry Tam, and Dr. Richard Field. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 5, 2004 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Batton, 77, of Aiken, SC, died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at University Hospital, Augusta, GA. Born in Ninety Six, SC, a son of the late John Sumter and Lillian Davis Batton, he had been a resident of Aiken, SC, since 1955 where he was a member of South Aiken Baptist Church and retired from E.I. DuPont as an Electrician at the Savannah River Site. Mr. Batton enjoyed his grandchildren, four wheeling, hunting, camping, and bird watching. A World War II veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife; Barbara Devore Batton, a son, James E. Batton, Jr., Aiken, SC; a daughter, Beverly Ann Green, Aiken, SC; sisters, Lillian Melonas, Columbia, SC and Nita Flowe, Greenwood, SC; and grandchildren, Travis Batton, Jennifer Green, Paul Batton, Adam Batton, and Brent Batton. The family has asked that memorials be made to the Lupus Foundation, P.O. Box 1427, Easley, SC 29641-1427
