Funeral Liturgy
Obituary of Frances Geiser
Frances Geiser, 93, went home to God the morning of Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at her residence where she lived with her husband in Aiken SC. She was born on December 31, 1927 to Peter A. and Frances (Tomaszewska) Chrobet in Brooklyn, NY.
When asked how she wanted to be remembered, she said, “I love God. God created me and took care of me all these years. I love my family more than I can say.” These include her husband, Richard Spaeth, who was her childhood best friend with whom she reconnected in her early eighties and married in 2011; her children Diane Ambrosio and husband Vincent, Lorraine Fields and husband Frank, Eileen (Elli) Haffey and husband Bill, Joan Abrahams and husband Patrick, Paul Geiser and wife Jude as well as her husband’s sons Richard and wife Tracy, and Robert and wife Barbette. She dearly loved her five granddaughters, six grandsons, five great granddaughters and two great grandsons. Her first husband, Joseph F. Geiser Jr. and her son, Joseph F. Geiser III, both also loved, preceded her in death.
As a child she was competitive and smart. She graduated high school at 16 and became a legal secretary. After raising her six children, she remained very active. At 65, she could be found playing golf, tennis, and bowling, often on the same day. You might find her at the pool as well! Well into her seventies, she organized tennis games for more than seventy people, considering their skills so all would have a good game. Her main rule was, “Be nice!” She considered this a ministry as it brought people into community and also helped them stay active and healthy.
Oh, how she loved her grandchildren and made every effort to be present for Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, weddings, sports events, graduations, recitals, grandparents’ days, etc. They recount fun times baking brownies, watching Star Wars movies and “The Sound of Music,” playing Atari and sleeping over. In the morning, they ate with gusto Grandma’s signature breakfast of French toast with sugar. She was the “hostess with the mostess” for holiday dinners—always topped off with her homemade pies.
She was a woman of faith who loved God, had many miracle stories, and could hear God’s voice that one fateful day which led her to buy the picture of Jesus that forever hung in her living room. She credited her guardian angel for much help and had a direct line to heaven if you had any weather concerns. She always reminded us to spend at least as much time thanking God as we had spent asking God for any request that had been granted. She was a living example of Jesus’ command that we “love one another.” She was generous and kind in big and small ways, her actions speaking louder than words.
She was a wonderful wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed.
