Obituary of Gloria Eileen King
Mrs. Gloria Eileen King, age 73, passed peacefully at home on January 5th, 2021, in Aiken, South Carolina after a battle with lung cancer. She was born in Georgia on August 26, 1947, the eldest daughter of Dorothy and Marion Hatchell. Eileen graduated from Berkeley High School in Goose Creek, South Carolina, married her high school sweetheart, Gene Smith and was a loving and devoted wife and mother of three children—Allen Smith, Glenda Smith and Marian Crawford. While raising children she also worked as a bank teller and served her local community by being an integral part of Calhoun County’s sheriff election campaign and a member of First Baptist Church. A kind and caring woman, Eileen also raised her two oldest grandchildren, Melynda Smith and Jessica Jordan.
Eileen married Mack King in October 1992, and they lived together happily for 27 years until he passed in June 2019.
She is survived by her two daughters, Marian Crawford and Glenda Smith, as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Eileen enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching, and gardening and will be remembered for her humor, her style, and her love of family.
The family will recieve friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at George Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m in The George Funeral Chapel. Rev. John Carroll will officate.
