Howard S. Smith, 71, beloved husband of Leslie K. Smith for 36 years, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at his home.
A native of Lancaster, PA Howard was the son of the late Samuel D. and Frances Smith of Ephrata. He lived most of his life in Lancaster County before retiring to South Carolina where he had lived for the last 6 years enjoying the mechanics and craftsmanship of renovating the property he and his wife had purchased. In his youth he was an airplane mechanic and aircraft salesman and enjoyed flying having earned his commercial and multi-engine pilots licenses. He enjoyed his boating time on the Chesapeake Bay.
While living in Willow Street, PA he started Smith-Wrought Acres Horse Trailer Sales and trade-marked Sterling Stainless Steel horse trailers. He retired from Kline's Services, Inc. in Salunga, PA before moving to South Carolina. Howard will always be remembered as a kind, soft-spoken man who enjoyed everyone he met.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Howard S. Smith, Jr., of Reamstown, a daughter, Cynthia A. MacPherson David W. of New Holland, Kimberly Ann nee Smith of Lancaster, and two grandchildren, Jessica Bowers of Clarkesville, TN and Zachary Bowers of Banbury, England.
