I only lately heard that Jim went home to the Lord. Jim and I were in the Class of 1960 of the US Naval Academy. I grew to know and respect him at the Academy. We lost touch after graduation even though we were both served in submarines, though on different coasts. He will be long remembered with great memories!
I send my condolences and prayers to the family. We all lost a wonderful man!

Where to begin. Jim was a person of strength, compassion and honesty. What a pleasure to learn from him that having strong values is the foundation for anything and everything a person would want to accomplish. As a manager he was always clear with expectations and allowed all who worked for him to grow or be satisfied with where they were in their career, he never judged. He didn't talk much about his personal life but I know he was very proud of his family and their accomplishments. I remember him speaking of the Christmas that his family came up for dinner, that so warmed his heart. He loved his animals; I still remember the story how he and a few others wrangled a stray dog that needed vet care desperately; I would say that was one of his proud moments when they were able to catch him (it looks weeks of weekend stalking). Jim loved this country and everything it stands for; anyone who met him or worked with him was certainly blessed.

Jim Wilson and I are graduates of the U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1960. As young officers, we were both selected for the Navy's Nuclear Power training , and after Submariner School, both served on the USS SCULPIN (SSN-590) in San Diego, where we became qualified submariners. Jim was an outstanding shipmate and friend. He went on to a distinguished career in the Navy. Only recently had we reconnected. I will miss him.

My condolences to the Wilson family. I pray God continues to comfort and strengthen the family during this time of bereavement. May the many cherished and loving memories of James continue to comfort his family and friends. A comforting thought is at Psalm 46:1 "God is our refuge and strength, a help that is readily found in times of distress." May you all have calming and pleasant thoughts during this time.

I can not really describe what a special teacher, mentor, and especially friend Jim was. I had the privilege to work for him and to learn from him for 15 years. He would let you do your job while coaching you into doing a better job. He valued your opinion and thoughts and was willing to learn as well as mentor. He had a strong love for country and company, a man that enjoyed what he did and did it well. His guidance and fellowship will be greatly missed. Thanks Jim for sharing yourself with us. Still trying to follow your lead BOSS.

We will keep Jim and his family in our thoughts and prayers. I worked with Jim from his early days in Separations and finally in Liquid Waste. He was a very modest person and did not talk too much about family, but he had a lot he could have shared. When I was serving as project engineer for the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial, Jim and I discussed the sacrifices people have made in the military.
Upon my request he brought in an article from the Maron Illinois History Preservation titled, “The Hosea Wilson Family in WWII, Lest We Forget.” Jim had lost three uncles during WWII and his father, Ronald Wilson Ship was aboard the USS Drexler when it was sunk in the Pacific in November 16, 1943.
His father survived and he went to work for Douglas Aircraft after the war. Jim like his father attended the US Naval Academy.
Jim made me promise not to copy the article and keep I to myself. I ask Jim forgiveness for me sharing now. His and his family are what makes America great.

My condolences and prayers are with those touched by losing Jim. I was privileged to have him for a mentor, and while he was extremely effective and inspirational to work with, I don’t think I’ll ever really have a grasp of his contributions well beyond our little group. I’ll miss him.

I knew Jim for many years. H always had a smile when you met him, either at SRS or downtown Aiken where we would often run into each other on Thursday nights many years ago. Jim was an wonderful man. I worked with Jim for many years. He was kind, humble, and a man with integrity. He was a mentor to many, sharing his knowledge and wisdom. I was blessed to be in attendance the night he was awarded the SRS Leadership Association, Leader of the Year, he was so deserving. He embodied all of the characteristics of a great leader. We would talk about fur babies and he should share his stories of how he rescued his latest. Jim was always willing to listen, provide advise, or a shoulder to cry on. He touched the lives of so many folks during in career. I learned a lot from Jim over the years, his SRR family will miss him greatly. I will miss our early morning chats!

Jim was my Captain in the Navy on the USS Holland. His leadership during that formative time in my life shaped me. I attribute much of my success to his example. I fortunately reconnected with him here in Aiken and was privileged to grow to call him a friend. It breaks my heart not to be able to show my respects, but I respect the family's privacy. He means so much to me. I will miss him. Daryl Hopperton MM1 SS. DV.

To the family,
I am sending my love and prayers to you all. Jim was a wonderful man who I had the pleasure of working with and for, for 15 years. Through all of these years he allowed me to grow and learn, vent, laugh, and cry. He always listened and provided me the best advice. He made me a better employee and a better person. We were always sharing our fur baby pics with each other and his every rescue of them, talking of family, cars and trucks, "techy" stuff, and always had the biggest heart.
He led our department with the greatest leadership. I will forever remember him and miss him always. Pam Basey
