Eleanor,
I just learned of Jimmy's passing and I am so sorry. There aren't enough words to express the sorrow I feel at his passing. You and Jimmy are two very special people to me. I will never forget either of you. He always had a smile and good conversation for all of us when he came into the store. I will miss him greatly, I am honored and blessed to have known Jimmy. You are in my thoughts and prayers, May the care and love of those around you provide you with the peace and comfort you need in the days ahead.

Dear Ellie, Y'all's "kids" and all Grandkids plus all those related to and knowing this good citizen, I am saying prayers for you, Ellie and all, during the Memorial Service George Funeral Homes is streaming on Facebook. I am not and won't be on FB. But it is remarkable that they can do this for you! Cody has some really wonderful people he hired to put together a team of truly caring, supportive, knowledgable people and you are well-served by them. Erin Franklin.in particular, has come to the rescue of my family before and I am just so pleased they can do this for you all and all who wish to be there, but can't. I know the people at Newberry Hall will also do a wonderful job for you. Just know, please, that friends who cannot be there are saying prayers and are thinking of you all, so much, like I am. God bless you ALL and may God's grace be sufficient in your continuing time of great need. Much love, Terry Spencer (Williams)

Clever, sweet, hardworking, organized, wise, patient, and warm are just a few words that come to mind when I think of Mr. Carlisle. As one of my parents’ first friends in Aiken, he and his family have supported the Dukes’ over the years through the good times and the bad. Whose furniture creations dot our house? Mr. Carlisle’s. Who kept my sister overnight when I was born? The Carlisles. Who sat there quietly listening to everyone and would then come out with a short, but sweet zinger? Mr. Carlisle. Whose garage do you think of when you think of your ideal workshop of a garage should look? Mr. Carlisle’s.
It’s hard to believe he is gone, but his kindness, creativity, and dedication to family and friends will never be forgotten. I’m so blessed to have known you, Mr. Carlisle. Rest in peace.

Oh, Ellie. I am SO sorry to know about your most beloved husband's death. He had a very difficult illness to deal with. Knowing you and your family, he had great help and protection and love throughout. I know we are older, but this still seems too young to me. I recall seeing you after marriage at the Steeplechase (you had braids!) and you were bouncing with happiness. I know you waited to have your darling children, as you told me that day, to spend your time together. Once the children began coming, I saw the home he provided and you made for each other and your precious kids! I remember the fun-looking, and rather amazing looking "gym" in the backyard in Crosland Park--when that was still a place we could live and raise kids safely, that he put together. And then you moved later to such a good house and I know you made a wonderful home. A happy marriage and a close family is what I think about when I think of you and Jimmy. Please know my sincere prayers, for whatever you need and for whatever the children and all those grandkids (yea, Grandkids), need to get through this hard, hard time. I could not begin to tell you how to go on but go on , you will, and your family and your trust in the Lord will be a balm for your tremendous loss and deep sorrow. May God comfort you just when you need it the most and may you rest assured that you will, one day, live together for eternity, in glory and the light of the most abundant love. Please also know I have never and will never forget my good St.Angela friends. With my love, Terry Spencer xo

Jim Carlisle was one of the first individuals that I met when moving to Aiken. I was new to SCVRD and to the area and he was genuinely kind and welcoming to me. I experienced his authentic, caring spirit and it was the same every day that I encountered him. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and all who were touched by this dear man.

Jimmy was one of those people you naturally connected to. Both he and wife (Ellie) are two fabulous people as well as their entire family. First meet Jimmy at a birthday party for Luke Osborne and what friends we became. Though I have only known Jimmy for 10 years or so I feel like I've known him for years. His passing I think means God called him home because God needs good people with him too. Though he'll sorely be missed by all who knew him he fought the battle and is now in God loving grace . I pray for peace and comfort for the family and Ellie.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I worked with Jim for many years at S.C. Vocational Rehab. There has not been another like him. His mechanical mind came in handy helping so many staff and clients with what we now call Rehab Engineering. He was also famous for not throwing anything away, it was History he said. I can still look under any hanging picture at work to find a note in his handwriting of the date it was received, where it came from, how much it cost, etc. But most important, he was the kindest, respectful, sweetest man on earth. He will be missed. Love you Jim!!!

Ellie, family, and friends, I knew Jimmy when growing up in Aiken. He, Fraser Martin, the Bancroft twins and I spent many a day together. I have many wonderful childhood memories with these guys.
A husband, a father, and a good friend can never be replaced but memories can last a lifetime!
When invited, God comforts all and I pray that our God gives peace and comfort to those that loved my friend Jimmy.

Jimmy, Ellie, my husband and I go back 44 years to when we first moved to Aiken, and Jimmy and I worked together at SC Vocational Rehabilitation. Jimmy was one of the kindest and most loving man I have ever know. Even when his Parkinson's was limiting his mobility, he was busy making sea glass for our new house. The last time we visited with him we sat in his den while Ellie went swimming and he told us about each of his children and his granchildren. He was so proud of each of them and loved them so dearly. I can't begin to tell you what he, Ellie, Christian, Patrick, Catherine, and Rachel mean to our family. We will miss him terribly, but will carry the love we have for him in our hearts forever.

We always visited Aunt Ellie and Uncle Jimmy as we were heading home after visiting with our grandparents. It was always going to be a quick visit but we always stayed longer than anticipated. We always looked forward to those visits with the family and I believe that was because your house was always filled with so much love. I believe that love will always live on in your hearts and I am lucky enough to share a little piece of it. Uncle Jimmy was a gentle giant to me with a quiet voice and a huge heart. He always went out of his way to make you comfortable in his presence and I will miss him dearly. My thoughts are with you, his loving family. I wish we were all able to be with you for hugs, tears and casseroles. Sending you all my love until we are able to celebrate his life as a family together. XOXOXOXOOOO Becky
