Mr. William R. Scott III, 78, beloved husband of 24 years to Lou Ann Ainsworth, died Friday, November 16, 2007. Born in Covington, VA on February 18, 1929, he was the son of the late William Rice Scott Jr. and the late Mary Geneva Flint. He graduated from Covington High School in 1946 and received his BA from Georgetown University. Bill worked as a civil engineer for both private industry and the Federal Government. He loved family, gourmet cooking, genealogy, computers, and travel. Bill was a Communicant of St. Mary Help of Christian Catholic Church and a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as board member and publicity chairman for the Academy of Lifelong Learning and treasurer of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees. He was also a member of the Aiken Tasters Gourmet Dinner Club and reigned as King XXX for the Krew of Zeus Carnival Club in Metairie, LA. Bill was a quiet, reserved, loving Southern gentleman. His family will remember him as someone who could do almost anything and fix any problem with strength, determination and diplomacy. When challenged he never quit. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his first wife; Betty Marie Scott and two grandchildren; Charity and Christopher Scott. Bill is survived by his wife; Lou Ann Ainsworth-Scott, Aiken, six children; Linda Susan Norman, W. Sunbury, PA, Gerald Wayne Scott, Findlay, OH, Katherine Anne Scott, Glen Mills, PA, Teresa Leigh Falk, Claymont, DE, Jeanne Marie Danek, Merchantville, NJ and Jeffrey Alan Scott, Ellwood City, PA, step-children; Kimberly Ann Mooty, Mission Viejo, CA and William Alan Ainsworth, Elmhurst, IL, a sister; Betty Jane Elliott, Greenville, SC, and an aunt; Hettie Christine "Chris" Flint, Greenville, SC. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 19, 2007, at 11 a.m.at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., with a vigil service conducted at 7:30 p.m. at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW, Aiken. The family has asked that memorials in memory of Mr. Scott be made to USC-A Academy of Lifelong Learning Endowment, 471 University Parkway, Aiken, SC 29801.
