Robert E. "Bob" Spencer, age 88, died Monday, April 19, 2010 at Presbyterian Retirement Community, Clinton, SC. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Aiken is assisting the Spencer family. He was born in Palatka, FL and was the son of the late Dorothy Bass Spencer and James Grafton Spencer. Mr. Spencer received his engineering degree from Georgia School of Technology, Atlanta, GA. He retired from the DuPont Company at the Savannah River Site after thirty-three years of service. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Aiken, where he served in numerous capacities as well as in the community. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a great grandson, Joshua McNeal. He is survived by his wife, Frances Forrester Spencer, originally of Chattanooga, TN, two daughters, Theresa "Terry" Spencer Williams and her husband Jim Williams, Aiken, SC and Sarah Elizabeth "Betsy" Spencer, Winston-Salem, NC, three grandchildren; Allison Williams Vincent, Warrenville, SC, Jenna Rose Williams and Spencer F. Williams, Aiken, SC, a brother, John E. Spencer and wife Emalyn Spencer, Birmingham, AL, a sister; Dorothy Spencer Norris and her husband Thomas, Murfreesboro, TN and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church, Aiken, SC. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Interment, with military honors, at Sunset Memorial Gardens will be private.
