Obituary of Kay Hodge Boynton
AIKEN, SC – Kay Ingram Hodge Boynton, the only child of Inez Ingram Brown and William Hodge, died September 21, 2019, at her residence. She was born January 3, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan at Edith Kay Thomas Hospital. She had been a resident in the area since 1975.
As a child, she attended Ebenezer A.M.E. Church and loved music and to sing all kinds of music and roller skating. She had many jobs: housekeeping, Detroit Lab Tech and graduated Nursing School during the Detroit Riots in 1967. Her goal was to learn everything about nursing. Her most interesting jobs were in clinics and emergency room nursing. She also enjoyed political science and took it as an elective each chance she got. She worked most of her life until she became ill.
God was good to her and she had two children which proceeded her in death. She raised Glenn M. Hodge Jr. and was blessed to see two great-grandsons; wonderful friends; two loving cousins that she loved very much, Derrick and Penny. She stated that she has not had such a bad life and now is free so do not mourn for her. Just love one another.
The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019 at George Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service starting at 3:00 p.m. in The George Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.
