Obituary of John Allen Palmer
AIKEN, SC – John Allen Palmer, age 76, died Thursday, July 25, 2019 at his residence.
John was born December 7, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA to the late John Allen Palmer and the late Dorothy Simpson Palmer. He served his country in the US Army Reserves and received his bachelor’s degree from Rider College. He spent much of his varied career as a business owner with over thirty years in IT Staffing.
John was a devoted volunteer, serving as a deacon, elder, and vestry member as well as the past president of both the Aiken, SC and Germantown, TN Kiwanis Clubs. He was also an active volunteer for The First Tee. He enjoyed everything about Aiken and loved playing golf. He will be remembered for his passion for his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Palmer.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Carol Peri Palmer; three daughters, Elizabeth Palmer, Melissa Palmer (Michael Chapman) and Kathryn Teegarden (Kyle); five grandchildren, Peri Kennihan, Kristin Kennihan, Foy Kennihan, Esther Chapman, and Savannah Teegarden; and a brother, David Palmer (Dabby).
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 29th at 2 pm at The First Presbyterian Church of Aiken with The Rev. Dr. Brian Coulter and Rev. Holly Shoaf-O’Kula officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
