Obituary of Gary Millard Blessing

AIKEN, SC -- Gary Millard Blessing, age 78, passed away April 29, 2019, at Aiken Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Gary was born August 31, 1940 in Waynesboro, VA to the late Walter Millard Blessing and Treva Vaiden Burns Blessing.  He proudly served his country in the US Navy, stationed in Jacksonville, FL. He had made Aiken, SC his home since 1953. Gary retired as a lab supervisor from Westinghouse at Savannah River Site after a 33-year career. He helped with the family business, Aiken Properties, for many years until his passing. His family was extremely important to him and he enjoyed traveling, taking cruises, and his home state of Virginia (especially the Shenandoah Valley). Gary loved cooking and was known as the “chef” of the house.

Gary is survived by his wife of 56 of years, Paula Zumbrunnen Blessing; his daughter, Laura Vaiden Thomas (Frankie) of Aiken, SC; his son, Walter Paul Blessing (Debbie) of Edgefield, SC; his grandson, Charles Lowe of Aiken; his sister, Barbara Jackson of Aiken; and his brothers, Walter Dale Blessing (Rosie) of Johns Island, SC and Ron Blessing of Aiken.

Friends may call Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at George Funeral Home’s Historic Downtown Chapel.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 2, 2019 in The George Funeral Chapel with The Rev. Frank Cunningham officiating. Interment will be private in Southlawn Cemetery.
