Obituary of Hilda Mitcham Johns

Funeral services for Mrs. Hilda Mitcham Johns will be held Friday, May 24 , 2002 at 11:00AM at Corinth Baptist Church, New Ellenton, , with Rev. Brancie Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, Aiken, Pallbearers will be Jerry Garvin, Mel Youngblood, Tim Thomas, John Ramsey, Mike Lynn and Warren Stephens. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 23, 2002 from 6-8 PM at George Funeral Homes, Southside Chapel 3175 Whiskey Rd., Aiken. There will also be a visitation on Friday morning from 10am until the time of the service at the church. Mrs. Johns, 85, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Born in Troy, AL, a daughter of the late Louie and Ethel Matthews Mitcham, Mrs. Johns had lived in Hanford, WA, before moving to Aiken in 1951. She had been the first secretary of the Talatha Water District, serving them for 18 years. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, New Ellenton, where she was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class. She was also a Life Member of The Order of the Eastern Star # 239, Richland, Washington. She was the wife of the late Malcomb E. Johns.
Mrs. Johns is survived her son, Paul E. Johns, Aiken; two daughters, Brenda J. Middleton, Fort Worth, TX, and Sue J. Robinson, New Ellenton, ; a brother, Harold Mitcham, Montgomery, AL; and a sister, Mary Annie Roney, Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
