Obituary of Mary Ellen Inderrieden

AIKEN, SC—Mary Ellen Curtis Inderrieden, age 83, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, September 11, 2018, at Aiken Regional Medical Center.

She was much loved by her family and friends as she was such a wonderful wife, mother, and friend herself!

Mary Ellen was born to the late Lawrence Patrick Curtis and Inez Cole Curtis.  She was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph, earning a degree in early childhood education.  Many of her years in Huber Heights, Ohio were spent as a homemaker and substitute teacher.   She loved her work with her friend Myrt Copley, owner of Happy Time Preschool teaching the 3 and 4 year olds.  Later, she worked in the public school system as a substitute teacher. Her students lovingly called her “Mrs. Reedy”!

She had made Aiken, SC her home for the past sixteen years, having formerly lived in Huber Heights and Troy, Ohio.  Mary Ellen enjoyed being a part of the Lydia Project, the Aiken County Historical Museum, the Aiken Newcomers Club, Red Hats, and all the activities with her many friends in Cedar Creek.  She was a faithful member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Aiken.  Her Catholic faith guided her life and inspired others.

In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by a brother, John Curtis. She is survived by her beloved husband of sixty years, Tom Inderrieden; two daughters, Susie Suloff, Simpsonville, SC and Debbie Ballard (Dave), Charleston, SC; a son, Mike Inderrieden (Kristi), Atlanta, GA; a sister, Ann Kehner (Frank); five grandchildren; Amanda Hart (Michael) of Charleston, Sean Ballard (Lendy), of Lexington, KY,  Katie Rose Theodore (T. J.), Simpsonville, SC,  Jake Inderrieden (Atlanta, GA), and Scott Inderrieden (Athens, GA); and four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Ethan, Evelyn (Evie) and Sophia (Sophie) Hart, Charleston, SC

Mary Ellen was laid to rest at Honey Creek Woodlands Cemetery, Conyers, GA.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 20th,  from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at George Funeral Home in downtown Aiken.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the new St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 138 Fairfield St SE, Aiken, SC 29801, with The Very Rev. Father Gregory Wilson as celebrant.
