A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Rita H. Schmidt will be held Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken, SC with Reverend Venancio Amidar celebrant. A Christian wake service will be held Friday, December 9, 2005 at 6:00 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC. The family will receive friends following the wake service until 8:00 PM. Mrs. Schmidt, 92, of Aiken, SC, died Wednesday, evening, December 7, 2005 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was a daughter of the late Peter Francis and Mary Alice Anton Herrly. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Schmift was a former member of Houndslake Country Club and enjoyed golfing and bridge. She had been a resident of Aiken, SC since 1979 where she was a very active communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. She is survived by sons, Dr. Richard A. Schmidt, Denver, CO, Thomas A. Schmidt, Covington, GA, William A. Schmidt, Augusta, GA and Peter A. Schmidt, Aiken, SC; sisters, Dorothy Nolan, West Palm Beach, FL and Peggy Varno, Skaneateles, NY; and grandchildren, Casey and Conor Schmidt, Denver, CO. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, P.O. Box 438, Aiken, SC 29802.
