Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn J. Smoak will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 3pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken with Jeff Smoak and Don Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:30 until the hour of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Family Connection of SC, Inc., 2712 Middleburg Drive, Suite 103 B, Columbia, SC 29204 in memory of Evelyn or in honor of her great granddaughter, Macayla Smoak. Mrs. Smoak, 88, of Aiken, died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Eden Gardens. Born in Springfield, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lula Fogle Jeffcoat. She lived in various cities before moving to Aiken in 1952. She was a member of Aiken's First Baptist Church, the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class and the Pioneer Operators. She retired as an Assistant Chief Operator from Bellsouth/AT&T and after fifteen years of service from Aiken County School System as a teacher's aide at Redcliffe Elementary. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carl Austin Smoak, brothers, Orman Jeffcoat, Clyde Jeffcoat, sisters, Inez McCall, Blanche Stevenson, Vivian Jeffcoat. Evelyn is survived by her son, Rodney Barbara Smoak, Aiken, grandchildren, Kim Smoak Dave Butler, Jeff Jennifer Smoak, Austin Smoak, Tina Smoak Chip Schutte, Harrison Jeffcoat Smoak, great grandchildren, Elizabeth Butler, Hannah Butler, Rebecca Butler, Macayla Smoak, Jacob Smoak, Shelton Schutte, godson, Troy Ushery, and special friends, Bernice and Wayne Ushery.
