Obituary of Lenore Ward Trawick
Lenore Ward Trawick passed away August 6, 2018, at the age of 99.
Born in the tiny town of Quitman, Arkansas, Mrs. Trawick was a treasure trove of information about life in that small rural community in the 1920’s and 30’s. However, after her marriage to James Lawrence Trawick, his career with the federal government took them to major cities including New Orleans, Detroit, Minneapolis and Chicago. The couple settled in Falls Church, VA, outside Washington, D.C., and lived there until her husband’s decease. She considered herself a proud Virginian.
Mrs. Trawick was an excellent writer and an avid reader. A scholar of English and American history and literature, she continued to take classes at the local university until the last few years of her life. She enjoyed genealogical research and had traced the family history to notable figures such as John C. Calhoun and even Oliver Cromwell. She loved independent and foreign movies, art galleries and museums, concerts and plays, and especially travel. Ever the learner and interested in different cultures, she participated in some 60 Elderhostel programs and traveled extensively in England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Australia, Canada and the US.
She is survived by her son James Lawrence Trawick, Jr., his wife Corinne and her grandson Justin; her son Kenneth Trawick and his wife Wendy; and her daughter Janice Jennings, Janice’s husband Gerald, their four children and their nine grandchildren.
The family would like to express their profound appreciation to the staff at Shadow Oaks Assisted Living Facility for the exceptional care she received there during the last six years of her life.
A memorial service will be held in Falls Church, VA, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may want to consider Joye in Aiken, PO Box 5538, Aiken, SC 29804.
