Obituary of William V. Brown

A Funeral Mass for Mr. William V. "Bill" Brown will be celebrated on Thursday, February 5, 2010 at 1pm at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken with a wake service at 7pm. Memorials contributions may be directed to the Building Fund at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, PO Box 438, Aiken, SC 29802.
Mr. Brown, 80, of Aiken, entered peacefully into eternal rest Saturday, January 30, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Brown was a native of Smithers, West Virginia where he was the chief of the volunteer fire department. He served as a member of the US Army Signal Corp in Japan during the Korean War as well as the Army Reserves. He was a 56-year resident of Aiken where he was employed by E.I. DuPont in Aiken, SC, until his retirement in 1989. He was a coach for the little league football at North Aiken Elementary and pony league baseball for the city of Aiken as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Perpetual Adorer at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, Virgil Lewis and Amelia Hill Brown, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Harless and a grandson Douglas William Ward of Aiken. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Frances Hyslop Brown, daughters, Sue Trish Brown, Greensboro, NC; Anne Bill Bond, Florence, SC; Mary Roger Ward, Jane Jeff Wilson, both of Aiken, sons, Kenny Audrey Brown, Greer, SC, David Brown, Ashville, NC, Mike Tari Brown, St. Louis, MO, brother, Robert L. Brown, Waynesboro, VA, sister, Patsy Chaffins, Smithers, WV. He is also survived by ten grandchildren.
