Memorial services for Maurine Horton Lackey will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at 3 PM in the Chapel of Millbrook Baptist Church, Aiken, SC, with Reverend Dr. Eddie Leopard and Reverend Dr. James W. Rivers officiating.Honorary pallbearers will be Bart Pearson, Barry Pearson, Willis Collins, Vrrgil Stone, Joe Womack, Bob Daniel, and Dennis Vowell. The family will receive friends Monday, August 11, 2003 from 6-8 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC.
Mrs. Lackey, 83, of Aiken, SC, wife of Mr. James Monroe Lackey, died Saturday, August 9, 2003 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Born in Newton, MS, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Horton and Estelle Robbins Horton, she had been a resident of Aiken, SC, since 1952, where she retired as Head Librarian of the Aiken County Library. She was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and was also a member of both the C.S.R.A. and the South Carolina Library Associations.
In addition to her husband, James Monroe Lackey, daughters, Glenda Bunce, Columbia, SC and Judy and her husband, Joseph R. Cunningham, Aiken, SC; grandchildren, Leah Bunch, Washington, D.C., Tad Cunningham, Charleston, SC, Jim Cunningham, Charleston, SC, and Claire Cunningham, Charleston, SC; and a niece, Jackie Chapman, survive.
The family has requested that memorials in memory of Maurine be made to Millbrook Baptist Church, c/o the Horizon Fund, 176 E. Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC 29803 or Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St., S., Aiken, SC 29801.
